Who Is Erin?

I’ve been teaching swim lessons since I was 16 years old, including the last 10 years teaching ocean swim lessons here in Hawaii. Over the years, I’ve worked with more than 500 students of all ages and skill levels, from toddlers taking their very first steps into the water to adults learning to swim later in life.

I specialize in ocean-based swim instruction, private pool lessons, fearful swimmers, and students who benefit from a more patient and personalized approach. Including children and adults with disabilities. My goal is always to create a fun, supportive environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and excited to learn.

Hear From Local Families

"So grateful for her teaching them"

"Erin was so fun and engaging with both our kids, ages 6 and 2. My daughter learned her swim strokes and my son built up his confidence in the water and can float on his back! So grateful for her teaching them water safety and showing them the love of swimming. Mahalo!." - Iris

"I honestly couldn’t be happier."

"My daughter has been training during the summers at Koa Swim School with Erin, and I honestly couldn’t be happier. My daughter started as a total beginner and was nervous around water, but Erin changed everything for her. Erin is patient, warm, and really understands the kid as per their comfort level." - Rubina

"Made learning to swim for a 1-2 year old fun"

"Erin was great with our son! Helped him get comfortable with the water at his pace and made learning to swim for a 1-2 year old fun! Highly recommend!" - Nick

"10/10 would recommend"

"10/10 would recommend swimming with Erin! Both my son and daughter have taken lessons with her. Erin is so patient and knowledgeable. You can’t go wrong!" - Alexandra

"Made huge progress by the end"

"Can’t recommend Erin enough! Our daughter had a big fear of the ocean before our sessions, and made huge progress by the end. Erin takes a very calm no pressure approach to really allow the child to get comfortable and go at their own pace." - Martina

"By the end they were all swimming"

"Our 4 girls took swimming lessons while on vacation with Erin and she did wonders! 3 out of the 4 were not swimming and by the end of our lessons they were all swimming, under the water, and diving. Our 4th was taught many difficult strokes and by the end had them all down. She is for sure a winner and we could not have been any happier." - Maija

"We truly see progress each week"

"We love Koa Swim School! Erin is an exceptional teacher who makes the lessons fun and engaging. Our daughter went from a non-swimmer who was working to put her face into the water to a confident, independent swimmer. We truly see progress each week and it is one of our family's favorite weekly activities. Erin gently pushes each child to develop new skills and grow." - Leah

"Finding Erin all those years ago was blessing!"

"We love Erin. Erin is great to work with and she innately knows how to work with kids. She is patient and fun. Our daughter has taken lessons with Erin since she was a little over two years old. Now at 6, she is floating and swimming on her own. Finding Erin all those years ago was blessing! Highly recommended.." - Amber

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started with KOA Swim School.

How do we get started with Koa Swim School?

Start by choosing either group or private lessons. From there, you’ll be able to view lesson options, availability, and request a lesson that fits your swimmer’s age and experience level.

What if I need special or unique lesons?

Every swimmer is different. We work with many unique situations including nervous swimmers, disabilities, special needs, adults learning later in life, and students who benefit from a more personalized approach. Feel free to reach out and we’ll help find the best fit for your swimmer.

What ages do you teach?

We teach swimmers of all ages, from babies and toddlers around 10 months old all the way through adults.

Do you teach adults?

Yes. We work with many adults, including complete beginners, nervous swimmers, and adults looking to become more comfortable in the ocean.

Do you offer private swim lessons?

Yes. We offer both private one-on-one lessons and small group lessons depending on the swimmer’s needs and goals.

Do you mix all ages together in group lessons?

No. Swimmers under 4 years old are placed in younger groups where a parent or guardian joins them in the water. Older kids are grouped separately, and swimmers may also be placed based on comfort level and swimming ability to help create the best learning environment for everyone.

How many students are in group lessons?

Group lessons are kept small with 5 or fewer students to allow for more personalized attention and coaching.

Do you work with students with disabilities or special needs?

Yes. Erin has experience working with children and adults who benefit from a more patient, personalized approach to swim instruction.

Where are lessons held?

Lessons are held at select beach locations across Maui depending on ocean conditions, lesson type, and the swimmer’s experience level. (Paia, Kihei and Lahaina)

Do you offer pool lessons?

Yes. Private lessons may be available in either the ocean or a pool depending on the swimmer’s goals and access to a private or condo complex pool.

Are babies welcome?

Yes. We work with babies and toddlers starting around 10 months old. For younger swimmers, a parent or guardian will typically join them in the water during lessons.

What should we bring to lessons?

Swimmers should bring swimwear, towels, water, sunscreen, and anything else they normally use at the beach. No flotation devices or life jackets will be used.

What happens if ocean conditions are unsafe?

Safety always comes first. If conditions are unsafe, lessons may be moved, rescheduled, or adjusted depending on the situation.

Can we book just one lesson?

Yes. You can book individual lessons or choose lesson packages depending on your schedule and goals.

Do you offer lesson packages?

Yes. We offer both single lessons and discounted multi-lesson packages for group and private instruction.

How long are lessons?

Lessons are 30 minutes and start promptly. (Please be on time :)

How do I choose between group and private lessons?

Group lessons are great for swimmers who enjoy learning alongside others in a fun small-group environment. Private lessons offer more one-on-one attention and flexible pacing for swimmers who benefit from more personalized instruction.
